5 Usborne Books

5 books

A little while ago, I attended my first Usborne books and more party that my friend hosted and I loved it! I bought a couple of books that Brielle became quickly obsessed with, and I knew I had to host a party of my own, so I could get more books (for free)!

I loved every minute of my online party (and even though I have not signed up to become a consultant, I still will gladly promote their product), and I can’t wait to share with you the free books that Brielle and I picked out together for her learning time!

Learning is such an essential part of life and it’s so important for children to love to read/be read to, because this is what they are going to be doing for the first 18+ years of their life.  Reading challenges a toddler, builds a foundation for success, and a love for learning.

(If you want to find more information about Usborne books and more, you can always message Katie N. and tell her I sent you!) 🙂

Here are Brielle’s top 5 picks and a little bit about each:

This book has such cute graphic and is so age appropriate with Brielle. She loves the flap books!

This book is all about problem solving and puzzles.  It’s amazing.

Brielle gets a little nervous about going to the Dentist, so this is the perfect book to talk about what all happens to other children as they go as well!

This book is so much fun because you can actually take band-aids off and stick them on the characters. It’s adorable!

This is a book that she will learn how to read herself pretty soon, it’s simple use of words will be perfect for her to learn off of!

A lot more “firsts”this Friday

Five ThisFriday

This Friday has come and finally for the first time in a LONG time, I have the entire weekend off work! Hooray!

Our foster child had a lot more “firsts” this week and I am SO glad to see him make so many strides since he has been with us!

  1. He walked for the first time, 4 steps in a row! YAY! He still isn’t too fond of it, and finds it more of a hassle more than anything, but we have high hopes for him! Can’t wait to watch him go everywhere in a few weeks!
  2. He went in a swimming pool for the first time yesterday! He looks SO cute, and I wish I could post all of the pics! He literally found it SO  much fun to splash everywhere.  Adorable!
  3. He has his first home visit with his parents today (YAY!) so happy he gets to see them! I am sure he misses them so much!
  4. He also had his first incident with Brielle.. unfortunately she wasn’t happy when Daddy told her no when she asked if she could give little man a hug and scratched little man in the face! Poor guy!
  5. We found out the foods that he doesn’t really like, but that he fits right on with us with his love for sweets! He ate his first cake and cupcake yesterday and couldn’t get ENOUGH! It was hilarious.

(I wish I could post all of the fun pictures that go along with us, but as per the rules of the system, I can’t but just trust me when I say he.is.adorable)!

5 things this summer

Five things summer

When it comes to summer (especially in Texas), the heat can get so bad that it truly does put a damper on your schedule and prevents you from getting out of the house to have some fun!

Today, I am going to share with you 5 ways my family tries to make the most out of summer, and always try to find something positive/fun to do!

Θ Go on an adventure.  We live out in the country, so when we pack up the kids and say “we are going on an adventure”, it means that we are going for a long walk/hike through the fields in our backyard and experience nature at its finest.  It’s so important for children to see the beauty in the little things.

Θ Go see a movie.  This is something that I just did yesterday actually with both of the kids, but it’s so fundamental to do something that they love, as well! Going to the movies not only gets everyone out of the house, but it can be really fun to see how much closer your family can get, when they all have something in common to talk about and remember together.

Θ Travel.  It’s always fun to get out with your family for the day (such as schlitterbahn, or drive to the coast), but it’s also fun to do a multi-day travel (such a flying somewhere and visiting/exploring a new place), and making memories that will last a lifetime.  Don’t forget to always capture it as well, so that they are able to be shared for many years down the road.

Θ Go to the zoo.  Children are always learning about animals and their habitats and the noises that they make, but they truly don’t understand until they see it in person.  Watching the lion exhibits and learning about their behaviors, feeding the peacocks,or watching the amazing jaguars react to one another, are just some fun and exciting things that happen there.  It’s such a fun place in general, whether you live by a large or small zoo, the children will cherish the experience for a lifetime.

Θ  Go swimming.  Whether it’s in the ocean, or the pool, there are only a few months out of the year that the water doesn’t feel like it’s freezing, so you must take advantage of it.  Please remember to always wear sunscreen at all times when outside, and remember water safety is so important for children and adults.  Please invest in life jackets for the younger children, if they are unable to swim on their own.  SO many accidents happen around water, but don’t let that keep you from enjoying your summer to the fullest!

Those are the five ideas I had, but what are some of yours? I would love to hear in the comments below!

Five ways

5 ways

Anxiety is a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.

I have never been openly public about my struggles with having Anxiety, because I never really thought I had it.  It had occurred me the other day, when I was just biting my nails, that I really didn’t have a reason as to why I was doing what I was doing.

Looking back, I have battled with this problem for years.  I have always twirled my hair, been nervous to talk to people (especially to speak in front of a class), and I worry a lot(of course about a lot of different things).  I used to yell and react a lot to different things in different situations, because I just didn’t know how to control what I was feeling.  I recently got to thinking how I have gone this long without counseling or medication –both of which are good and I am proud of the people who choose those routes.

I am going to share with you 5 ways (not always so good) I deal with my anxiety.

  1. As you can read from above.. I bite my nails, and have been doing so for years.  When I am handling my anxiety really well in life you can see that all of my nails are  long and pretty (and usually painted too). Oh and I don’t need anyone telling me how gross this is.. I clearly already know that.
  2. I work out.  It helps temporarily, but I feel so good after the workout is complete and it kept my mind from racing for an entire hour.  Bad thing to working out is that I come home and eat (sometimes good, majority bad).
  3. I hide.  Well, I like to keep to myself a lot as it is, but when I am feeling really anxious I don’t leave my house all day with Brielle (unless of course she requests to go to the park, outside to play, etc).
  4. I blog.  I usually try to do this every night, or every other, and it really does help me as a great outlet to express my feelings and writing through poetry, and photography.
  5. Last but not least, I clean (and drink coffee, lol!) the entire house.  I love to clean as it is, but when I am feeling anxious (and it could happen at any hour of the day/night), I clean and move furniture, and clean some more.  My favorite thing lately to clean is windows.  We have so many in our house that if you just hand me a bottle of Windex, I will go at it.

I know that other people are suffering from different conditions as well, so please don’t be so quick to judge someone.  Instead, try reaching out a helping hand. You never know if you get to be the person they open up to the most.
