Surviving 3 kids, 3 and under

three-kids

First off, let me be real with you… the first couple of weeks going from a family of 3, to a family of 5.. was just plain insane.  I finally made a plan on how to be successful raising 3 kids, and I was ready to implement it!

  • First and foremost, and probably the most important thing of all, is making a schedule (and sticking to it).  I decided to create a schedule in my mind when and how things were going to happen, and it relatively stayed the same each day except on school days (Tuesday and Thursdays) and weekends.  This helped me the most, for example, Brielle takes the longest to put to bed each night, so we save her for last and it works.
  • Have a lot of snacks. This goes without explaining, except for the fact that they have to be readily available and easy to clean up (because seriously who wants to clean up in between meals as well). My go to snacks were chips, crackers, blueberries, strawberries.
  • Pre-plan.  This means every night I would lay out the next day clothes (bows, socks, and underwear included for Brielle) and every afternoon I would lay out the night clothes.  This helped so much because when it was time to shower, read books, and get ready for bed, there was never any confusion.
  • Have a “safe” place, where the kids can play, without needing any of your help.  Toys that can allow independence, but is age appropriate and safe for them as well.  My favorite were little trucks and toys that made noise for little man (he was 16 months at the time) and little barbie play dolls, and puzzles for Brielle (she is 3).
  • Remembering that there is always another tomorrow, and what didn’t go right, can be re-started and done correctly the next day.  Kids are resilient and will only remember bits and pieces of the entire day.
  • Pray.  Pray whole and solid prayers.  Pray for specific reasons, and pray for a purpose.  When you cannot believe what is happening or how you got to where you’re at (having your entire house destroyed by little kids and you’re the only one left to clean it up at night), just pray.  That really got me through the good and bad days.  God continued to answer my prayers and bless us tenfold!

We are now back to being a family of 4 (little man left to be with his aunt, that is why I am using him in past tense).  It’s just me, my husband, Brielle, and our foster baby girl.

Sweet little prayer

As Shane and I were on our were to church (which never happens, because I work weekends and always meet him and the kids there), I started to notice myself getting frustrated at the little things.. (wondering why we were running late, how all the kids would behave, etc etc.) and as Shane drove, I stopped and said a little prayer ” Lord, please know that I realize that even though today is my birthday, and I just want everything to work out with our plans, it’s okay if it doesn’t and I know that everything will be good enough, the way you intend it to be”.

What happened next at church, was a miracle! Did the baby just sleep through the entire sermon?  Did Brielle just stay quiet and behave? Did little man actually not screech/yell at all during the sermon?  It wasn’t a miracle, it was God answering my prayer.

It was amazing, and I was SO happy, that I wanted to capture the moment, and cherish it forever.  (The baby was sleeping so she wasn’t in the picture).

So after everyone (including Shane) had a nap, I took the time to clean the dishes and take some pictures of my amazing roses Shane bought me and the adorable pink cupcakes him and Brielle made for me.  They are amazing!

Then it was time for some family fun time (bowling and dinner) and everyone was well-rested and ready to go!  We drove about 40 minutes from our hometown to go bowling (since our small down doesn’t have fun activities such as this nearby!) and it was such a great decision! It’s such a fun competitive sport, and will definitely remind you of all the fun times you had when you were younger and going bowling!  I won the first game by 1 point, and then my mom won the second game, and we had such a fun time supporting everyone in each game! Shane’s family were playing in the lane next to us, and it was so fun!

Then we all went out to eat, and had tons of laughs filled with great food and great conversations.  I couldn’t have wanted more!  Thank you to all of the people who wished me a happy birthday, or sent me sweet messages!! I love you all!! Cheers to 28!!

welcome to my treasure hunt

**This post contains affiliate links**

Who doesn’t love a great treasure hunt?? Especially one to play with your kids? I was so excited when I was contacted by Ilan about this product!

I really have never done a “treasure hunt” with Brielle, and I wasn’t really sure she was quite ready for it (because she is only 3), but she loved it!

Here is a little background about Treasure.Run:

⊗ It’s a family run business

⊗ It’s educational, fun, and very creative

⊗ Parents and children can both get involved and play (huge bonus in my book)

⊗ Each game tells you the supplies that you will need

⊗ There are different ways to solve each riddle (which is great for all different age levels)

⊗ It’s easy to play, easy to download, and easy to print

I love asking Brielle each question, and I placed a little stuffed animal at all the surprise areas, and then had her bring me the surprise when she found the correct answer to the riddle. So fun!! We loved it all, and I know you will too!

That’s why I am hosting a giveaway to 3 of my lucky readers! It’s going on for a week, and three of my readers that enter, will win a free game at Treasure.Run

Good luck!! You will not regret it!

Can’t believe it’s Friday!

Can’t believe it’s Friday!

This week has been a very long week and we didn’t even do much!

  1. Last Saturday, I started to get sick after I had worked an 8.5 shift and then taking my niece and her friends pictures, pretty quickly.  I started to feel weak all over, fever, and immediately thought I was getting the flu.  After I woke up Sunday and felt a lot better and went to work, I decided I was just coming down with an upper respiratory infection.  Let’s just say.. It’s Friday and I am still not 100%! Bad thing is, now I think Brielle is coming down with it.. ugh!
  2. I have worked 2 night shifts this week and I learned something major! I sleep WAY better during the day then I ever do at night! Thank you so much Mom and Mike for watching Brielle and making it possible to get such good sleep (my mom thinks it could be that the house is quiet and there is no one to worry about–which could definitely be true)!
  3. Brielle has grown such a  wealth of knowledge and experience with life.. and she is not even 3!  Her memory is amazing, and I just want to remember so much in her life, that I have started adding more videos of her learning and growth on my YouTube channel.
  4. Tomorrow we are taking our last class with this  foster/adoption process, before we schedule for another home study with our new agency! I am hoping MAY is the month that we get our child!  Please continue praying for our future child to be placed in our hands and that we are able to shower them with  so much love and goodness!
  5. We are ALSO vacationing at the beach this weekend and I can’t wait for Family day!! Our April day got rained out and we are BEYOND excited to just get away!! Rockport, we are so ready for you! (Many pictures to come!)
