A lot more “firsts”this Friday

Five ThisFriday

This Friday has come and finally for the first time in a LONG time, I have the entire weekend off work! Hooray!

Our foster child had a lot more “firsts” this week and I am SO glad to see him make so many strides since he has been with us!

  1. He walked for the first time, 4 steps in a row! YAY! He still isn’t too fond of it, and finds it more of a hassle more than anything, but we have high hopes for him! Can’t wait to watch him go everywhere in a few weeks!
  2. He went in a swimming pool for the first time yesterday! He looks SO cute, and I wish I could post all of the pics! He literally found it SO  much fun to splash everywhere.  Adorable!
  3. He has his first home visit with his parents today (YAY!) so happy he gets to see them! I am sure he misses them so much!
  4. He also had his first incident with Brielle.. unfortunately she wasn’t happy when Daddy told her no when she asked if she could give little man a hug and scratched little man in the face! Poor guy!
  5. We found out the foods that he doesn’t really like, but that he fits right on with us with his love for sweets! He ate his first cake and cupcake yesterday and couldn’t get ENOUGH! It was hilarious.

(I wish I could post all of the fun pictures that go along with us, but as per the rules of the system, I can’t but just trust me when I say he.is.adorable)!

5 things this summer

Five things summer

When it comes to summer (especially in Texas), the heat can get so bad that it truly does put a damper on your schedule and prevents you from getting out of the house to have some fun!

Today, I am going to share with you 5 ways my family tries to make the most out of summer, and always try to find something positive/fun to do!

Θ Go on an adventure.  We live out in the country, so when we pack up the kids and say “we are going on an adventure”, it means that we are going for a long walk/hike through the fields in our backyard and experience nature at its finest.  It’s so important for children to see the beauty in the little things.

Θ Go see a movie.  This is something that I just did yesterday actually with both of the kids, but it’s so fundamental to do something that they love, as well! Going to the movies not only gets everyone out of the house, but it can be really fun to see how much closer your family can get, when they all have something in common to talk about and remember together.

Θ Travel.  It’s always fun to get out with your family for the day (such as schlitterbahn, or drive to the coast), but it’s also fun to do a multi-day travel (such a flying somewhere and visiting/exploring a new place), and making memories that will last a lifetime.  Don’t forget to always capture it as well, so that they are able to be shared for many years down the road.

Θ Go to the zoo.  Children are always learning about animals and their habitats and the noises that they make, but they truly don’t understand until they see it in person.  Watching the lion exhibits and learning about their behaviors, feeding the peacocks,or watching the amazing jaguars react to one another, are just some fun and exciting things that happen there.  It’s such a fun place in general, whether you live by a large or small zoo, the children will cherish the experience for a lifetime.

Θ  Go swimming.  Whether it’s in the ocean, or the pool, there are only a few months out of the year that the water doesn’t feel like it’s freezing, so you must take advantage of it.  Please remember to always wear sunscreen at all times when outside, and remember water safety is so important for children and adults.  Please invest in life jackets for the younger children, if they are unable to swim on their own.  SO many accidents happen around water, but don’t let that keep you from enjoying your summer to the fullest!

Those are the five ideas I had, but what are some of yours? I would love to hear in the comments below!

We are done!!

Five ThisFriday

Well, hey everyone! It has been pretty stressful over here at the Johnsons lately, as we were preparing for our home study, then having our home study, and checking off the last 3 things off our list (did two of them yesterday) that we need to complete before all of our paperwork officially gets entered in the system and we become LICENSED foster/adoptive parents (hopefully Monday)!! It’s so amazing that this journey has caused us to look deeper into our marriage, friends, family, and all of the relationships in between. I will share about our week, and hope y’all do as well!

∗ My week started off recovering from the eventful weekend we had loving on our family/friends! There really is no better thing (except maybe not waking up at 6:45am Monday morning) in the world, than spending times with those you love.

∗I overslept Wednesday morning and barely made it to work at the gym on time. Literally only a couple of minutes late, NOT bad for getting both Brielle and I ready in 7 minutes flat. Score!

∗ Our home study went better than ever, and we are SO glad/blessed/happy that we switched from CPS based out of San Antonio, to FamilyLink in Gonzales. Seriously best decision ever! As you can read from above, hopefully next week we will be licensed foster to adopt parents!!

∗Today is my niece’s (Rhyleigh) graduation, and I cannot WAIT until I see her walk across the stage, receive her diploma and celebrate her graduation Saturday night.  I am beyond proud of her, and the person she has become.  Follow along my social media platforms (facebook, twitter, snapchat) to see some gorgeous pictures I took of her!

∗ Best for last–Shane is turning 29 next week and we are celebrating his birthday Sunday since everyone has Memorial Day off! I cannot believe he will be 29, and the fact that I met him when he was 18.  Such a baby compared to now, and I am so glad that we have literally grown up together, in many aspects of life, and that we get to celebrate another birthday/holiday together! I Love you babe!

Hey Friday! Nice to see you!

Why does Friday seem to come so quickly every week? I feel like I want to accomplish so much during the week, but I only end up conquering about 3/4 of what I intended on. 🙂
This week was contained some highs and some lows!

●First off, Brielle had gotten what I had over the weekend and she took a turn for the worst Monday morning, with her fever spiking up so high (close to 102) and I decided it was time to take her in to the doc! She did amazingly well (like I was shocked that my daughter sat so well and let them assess her), so I treated her with some delicious frozen yogurt at Cherry Berry in Victoria, Tx. Oh and by the way.. she HATES her antibiotic with a passion and I can’t wait until her 10 days are complete!
●Well, just when I thought we were on the mends of this whole illness, she was coughing up SO much that she threw up phlegm ALL over my left arm.. I called for back-up and thankfully Shane was on his lunch break and came to the rescue and washed her up so I could clean myself up(also, it hasn’t happened since and she felt so much better getting it all out)!
●I found out that we are SO close to finishing all of our required paperwork for our adoption process and we should be hearing back sometime next week to schedule another home study with our new agency (FamilyLink). We are hoping and praying that we will have the opportunity to foster/adopt this month!♡♡
●After not working out last week(due to both me and brielle being sick) and then picking it back up this week… I can definitely say that I get SO hungry after I workout. Like, insanely hungry! Does this happen to anyone else?
● I missed Bible Study this week on accident (was caught up having too much fun with Brielle and Shane fishing) and I just felt like a piece of my heart was there. I have really seen that when I pray more intentionally and specific, I see God making a path for those who need Him the most, and I pray so hard over my loved ones. Shane and I realize that whatever we are going through, someone has it worse, but knowing that we are able to receive His goodness, feels so good!
