This letter of the week was interesting to say the least, because not a lot of things start with the letter Q!
Queen was a previous obvious way to start off learning the letter, because she has heard of that example many more times then some of the others. She loved trying to dress like a queen, even though it is very similar to how a princess dresses in her eyes. She seemed to catch on that a Queen gets to wear “really big hats and big dresses” lol!
Q is also for quiet, which we probably need to practice more often. I tried to teach her that especially during nap time when she’s laying with mommy, we don’t talk until the nap is over, so we don’t lose track of our main focus…sleep. She has actually done pretty well with being quiet at certain times, and even is getting better at whispering! Score! We will see how well she does at church, but for now progress is progress. 🙂
One of the last main subjects that I touched on was that Q could also stand for quail! It’s kind of funny, because I am not really sure why so many examples of quail are in many of her baby learning activities instead of queen or any kind of easier word. A Quail is “a collective name for several genera of mid-sized birds generally placed in the order Galliformes.” To say that we have probably never seen one in person, is probably an accurate statement. Whenever we would go out to a restaurant or somewhere in general where Q was present, Brielle would go “Q for quail”!
I really enjoyed this letter of the week, and Brielle picked up so fast which made it even more fun! I am very excited about next week which we will definitely be talking about Rochelle a lot! 🙂
Here are a few examples of what we did. We practiced tracing, choosing the correct letter on the fridge, finding Q on her little computer, reading books and finding the letter throughout the words, and just a lot of recognition with practice. 🙂
